A Letter from the Housewife
Victoria is a Navy wife and a new mom. Dahvie is an incarcerated Chicago gang member. They write letters back and forth. In this post, Victoria explains a long absence and previews upcoming material.
…did you miss us?
There’s been a lot going on with us. I bet there’s been a lot going on with you, too. You busy person, you. Here’s hoping that you’ve been happy, able to make those small steps necessary to achieve your broader goals, making time for self care, and that you’re ready for our next plunge into content. We’ve amassed a hefty stash of healthy dialogue. Dahvie still questions my sanity, and I still question his hobbies.
Where’ve we been? Well, to be completely frank, the absence was 100% my fault. I was a little occupied with a little one :) My daughter, my first-born child, was born in February. She is stubborn and pensive, pro-tummy time and anti-sleep, blue-eyed and curious. We are so proud of her and so exhausted by her. If you pray, please pray for our little family.
Dahvie had a card made for the little girl. I’m so overwhelmed by how beautiful it is, and that he would think of us. I can barely remember to send him a card for his birthday. He’s locked up in jail thinking of me and my little baby girl.
Dahvie, fun fact, has a stronger talent for consistency than I. He’s still cranking out material and insight. Not to say that his life was uneventful these past few months. Quite the opposite. Just you want until his blog posts role out. It’s going to be big.
On a more serious note, Dahvie and I will be sharing some pretty heavy stuff in the upcoming months. Dahvie’s case has…been resolved. I wish we could celebrate good news. I wish that we could toast to a happy resolution as we toast to my daughter’s good health. But…it didn’t work out that way. And that’s a hard pill to swallow. The emotional roller coaster involved with this is a lot to process, and I’m inspiried by Dahvie’s vulnerability and willingness to share it.
I will be sharing my return to work. My family’s financial needs, coupled with a big dose of cabin fever, sent me looking for gainful employment. I became a middle school teacher, and let’s just say it was a time of … personal growth. It was a time of immense personal growth. I will be sharing about my pregnancy and about the adventures of raising a little girl all in due time, but I think that our conversations raise important questions about education and our responsibility to younger generations.
Peripherally, I edited and revamped the style and formatting of the site. Little things here and there, but I’m definitely more pleased with the visuals and the presentation. I want the format and graphics to aid the experience, to develop the thought and consideration we put into the words. Hopefully I’ve achieved that a little better this go around.
All the best,
P.S. Previously, I was going by a pseudonym, “Elle.” I’ll now be going by my real name, Victoria, because…well, Dahvie called me out on it, lol. In his last letter he wrote to me he said:
Dahvie: Yoooo, Elle, what’s up? LOL. Mann who da fuck is Elle?! Oh wait is that yo screen name? So you keep yo real identity withheld? And I’m real live on the frontline? SMH you cold blooded. Lol. I’m not mad. I’m just shocked cuz I thought we was goin 50/50 on this thing now it seem like it’s my shit. but whatever….just know I did peep that I almost felt like you tryna finesse me >.< <=angry face
